Directions to Metra Carpinelli and the House ‘Il Roseto’

From Aulla

  ·       From motorway Exit and go through tollbooth, follow road across large bridge to T – Junction.  Turn right.  Keep to the right and, after about 200 yds., the traffic will start to merge in from the left.  Follow sign ‘Tutte di Direzioni’.  Basically you will move to the left and after a few yards turn left.

·       Head for the town centre. (Follow the signs to Aulla).  Basically TURN RIGHT.

·       At Aulla centre: You will see cars parked on the left and right in a sort of town square.  Ensure the bank named ‘Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze’ is on your LEFT  Drive about 40 yards and turn LEFT ACROSS the railway crossing. This is a one way street.

·       Drive for 3Km until you reach a sign to ‘Fivizzano’; turn right here.  You will cross the railway again.

·       Drive 1.5Km through the industrial estate.

·       Turn right at the junction to ‘Fivizzano’.

·       Drive 6kms until you reach a sign to GASSANO.  Turn right here.  You will go up a hill then down again.  There are speed ramps in this village.

·       At T-Junction turn right.

·       Drive through villages of; Gragnola, Codiponte (but always follow signs to LUCCA), Vigneta and Montefiore.  (The road is numbered SS445).  Finally, you’ll reach  ‘Metra’ and you are here.

·       Either park opposite the bar in the small car park or attempt the narrow road through the village.  Its best to approach from the top of the village where there is a sharp right turn down the hill.  This road is very narrow but access is possible.  The locals are quite adept at it.  One owner has a BMW 525 and manages it - somehow!

·       Park outside the house to unload but please do not leave your car here.   Either use the small car park opposite Sig.ra Giannelli or opposite the bar.  It is only a 5-minute walk from the house.

·       Collect the key from Sig.ra Ilva Giannelli, she will either be waiting for you or knock at number 29.
