Glossary of Printing Terms

Some common terms used in printing:

Crop marks (or trim marks)
These are marks that are placed outside of the finished page size to show where the finished job is to be trimmed.
Printed pages (pp)
This refers to the number of printed sides and not the number of sheets. For example a double-sided printed leaflet can be described as a 2pp leaflet. With folded booklets every printed side becomes a page so they are always in multiples of four, i.e. 8pp, 12pp, 16pp etc.
Saddle-stitching
Describes the process of stapling a folded booklet along its spine, typically with two wire staples.
